Disqualifications - Transfer of Horses

Following a series of positive swabs which led to multiple trainers being disqualified the Harness Racing NSW Board ratified a new policy pertaining to the transfer of horses from a disqualified trainer.

There were many precedents over many years where horses were remaining on the same property after a trainer had been disqualified as they were transferred to a relative, sibling or stable foreman. The Board have deemed this practice unacceptable.

Decline in 2YO Racing

HRNSW is concerned with the apparent decline in participation rates in 2yo racing during the 2014/15 racing season.

As such HRNSW is requesting written submissions from interested stakeholders concerning the programming of 2YO races.

Items that may be addressed in submissions are as follows:

  • When should the 2YO racing season commence?

  • Should the 2YO racing season be condensed?

  • Should HRNSW conduct 2YO races with a minimum of 6 final acceptors?

  • Are there too many 2YO races programmed within a Region each week?

  • Are there too many Futurity Races for 2YO's?

  • Is there too much/sufficient/insufficient prizemoney offered for 2YO racing?

  • Should there be a limit to the number of starts a 2YO can have?

  • What decides whether or not you race horses as a 2YO?

  • Any other areas for consideration or any initiatives concerning 2YO racing.

Submissions are due by Friday, 31 July 2015 and should be sent to:
